Help me now - Organizing Kids Closets

Earlier this week I took on the challenge of organizing my boys closest - not a big deal really. Then my own, which was more like throwing out clothes. Today I went to get my daughters shoes in a hurry and couldn't even open her closet door. Lets just say things have gotten out of control here & thanks to the 31 day organizing challenge hosted by Thrifty & Chic Mom, I'm getting back at it. We have a party here Saturday so that's even more motivation. What are you organizing? Those of you with dress up clothes, how do you organize? Where do you put it? We have it all just piled in a laundry basket and it's not working.

  1. We have everything smooshed into one of the closetmaid cubicals cubes but it's really overflowing and there are a couple of things not being used since they're not included in the bin. When I get our basement set up, I'm going to get one of these little nylon trunks from IKEA. Our neighbor found one there that looked like a treasure chest, complete with "lock", uses it for their kids dress-up stuff and it's perfect. Unfortunately, they don't sell that style anymore, but these look close enough:

    1. Karen, thank you for the links. I really like the canvas one & we need to get a dresser for the new babe (still) so an IKEA visit is in the future. I like the lock idea for things that don't get used so much. Thank you so much for the suggestions - a cute tote with lid may just be the best solution for us. :)

  2. Your daughter has an awesome closet, first of all. I so wish my girls had bigger closets! We have an issue with dress up clothes as well. First, she had a few and they hung on the lower rod in her closet. Then as they multiplied, I pulled them out and put them in a reusable store bag. But that wasn't big enough. I found an old fabric bag I'd made years ago that is probably the size of your laundry basket and that is what they are in now. But I agree, it isn't working. I did see at my daughter's friend's house that they had a whole separate sort of clothes hanging unit that it looked like her dad had made on which they hung all her dresses and things. Their house is really small so it wasn't in her room, but a hallway, but it still looked nice and tidy. Something like that would be great, but where to get and where to put? If you get any really awesome tips, please share!
